The Story

Coniston House was built for a Manchester cotton family who wanted somewhere to think. Its proportions are unusually calm — high ceilings, tall sash windows, and rooms arranged so that almost every one of them looks west across the water to the Old Man.

Recent work has been light-handed: better bathrooms, a properly modern kitchen, and otherwise a decision to leave a good house alone.
