Nine walks, from a thirty-minute climb with an outsized view to a full day on the high ridges.
There are 214 Wainwrights and no need to be systematic about any of them. These are the walks we send guests on, chosen for the view rather than the tick.
Start with Orrest Head. Thirty minutes from Windermere station and the whole lake laid out beneath you — the walk that converted Wainwright himself.
Catbells, above Derwentwater, is the most photogenic short ridge in the district. Go at first light.
For a full day, the Fairfield Horseshoe from Ambleside is honest and beautiful, and you finish in a village with good beer.
The high scrambles — Striding Edge, Sharp Edge, the Crinkles in winter — should be done with a guide unless you know exactly what you are doing. We can arrange one.
